a diamond is forever

before today, i have no idea how to tell whether is a perfect diamond or not. after doing some reading over the internet, i have a rough idea on how does a perfect diamond is measured with the value. some of you might be thinking how come i am blogging about diamonds, am i getting married? well, the answer is simply "NO". it's just that i felt every men should know about diamonds as it comes handy when the time is right to do the thing.

there is actually 4 criterias to determine a diamond with its value. the 4Cs is "Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat" to be combined with a certificate that guarantees the authenticity of the diamond that you're buying.

Cut - refers to the cutting and angles of the diamond where a brilliance cut allows light to enters and dispersed back to the top of the facets. there are different types of shapes such as round brilliant, princess, heart, marquise and etc.

Color
- most of the diamonds comes in white but diamonds are also found in all colors of rainbow. the colors of diamond are describe on a letter scale from D (colorless) to Z (tinted color).

Clarity - refers to the natural inclusions or birthmarks that is used to describe the diamond's clearness and purity. the inclusions requires a higher power magnification to be seen and not easily apparent to the eye. it is scaled from Flawless/Internally Flawless to Inclusions Visible to the Naked Eye.

Carat - refers to the weight and size that will determine the price of the diamond. points are often used to determine the carats where 100 points is equivalent to 1 carat. 2 of the same carat diamond comes in difference price where the cut, color and clarity differs.

there are a couple of organisation that issues certificates of authenticity for diamonds such as GIA (Gemological Institute of America, New York & Carlsbad), HRD (Hoge Raad voor Diamant) and etc. i found this tutorial on the internet that guides you in buying a diamond.
